About Me
My name is Whisky (威忌). I use this name for all my games. It comes from my elementary school classmates mispronouncing my English name Windson as Whisky. I am currently a third-year student in the Department of Applied Mathematics at NCHU. I play the guitar, so I often hang around the guitar club. I usually play electric guitar as the lead guitarist, responsible for solos and clowning around. Feel free to ask me to play a song.
I support free and open-source software. Closed formats are just a way to hold users hostage, so I dislike products from large companies such as Line, Meta, Microsoft, and Google. It is not that they are unusable, but they all use a walled garden design. Instead, you can use open-source alternatives. This kind of software is designed with users in mind. First, it is harder to hide backdoors in open-source software, so your data is usually safe. Second, it usually uses open formats, so changing editors does not make you pay the cost of abandoning ship. This is why I started writing a blog: I moved things that I would have posted on social media here instead. Keeping the records in my own hands feels much more reassuring, although perhaps one day you will need an Instagram Premium subscription to publish posts.
On social media, a short paragraph with a pile of photos can become a post. On a personal blog, however, there is more of the text that people normally do not have the patience to finish reading. Text can carry the details and emotions of life and record more of its aspects. Carefully arranged photos on social media may look dazzling, but they stay in other people’s eyes for less time than fireworks. A blog can continue to exist for a very, very long time. Even until I can no longer afford to maintain this domain, it will still exist on my computer.
